Laser Hair Reduction is a procedure that reduces the growth of unwanted hair using specially designed lasers. In general, the effectiveness of medical lasers depends on the characteristics of the target. In hair reduction, the target is melanin. Melanin makes the hair darker. So, for effective hair removal, lasers that are absorbed by melanin are chosen. Gray or blonde hair is usually not treatable.
Common areas of treatment include facial, axillary, bikini line, backs (men) and legs. Prospective patients should avoid tanning at least two weeks prior and after a treatment. Approximately 50% of the hair is terminally affected with each treatment. Although unusual, any laser procedure can have unfavorable effects on pigmentation and even cause scarring.
A consultation with Dr. Clinton or Dr. Pearce is required prior to treatment. The procedure itself is usually provided by our highly trained and experienced nurse or aesthetician.
