Your body holds the key to facial rejuvenation. Hidden within your blood are the building blocks for healthier, beautiful skin. Our platelet rich plasma treatments isolate these and create a healing serum to bring new life to your skin. Reveal Beauty is excited to offer PRP treatments in Birmingham, AL.
The Science Behind the Rejuvenation
PRP, short for platelet rich plasma, has been studied and used in medical treatments since the 1970s. Its earliest uses were in the field of hematology, but soon PRP was being used in surgery and sports medicine. More recently, PRP has become a promising treatment in aesthetic medicine and plastic surgery.
PRP uses the platelets, plasma, and growth factors found within your blood to boost healing and rejuvenation of the skin. The isolated plasma is injected into the skin. This systematically damages the skin and jumpstarts a healing response that is enhanced by the growth factors, proteins, and other components in the plasma.
PRP is still being studied for various cosmetic and medical applications. Here at Reveal Beauty, we use PRP treatments on the face and we look forward to introducing new treatment options and applications as they are developed.
What Can PRP Do for You?
Brighter, beautiful skin is just the beginning. PRP offers many skin enhancing benefits including:
- Stimulates collagen production for fewer wrinkles and thicker skin
- Firms skin and improves skin tone
- Softens lines and wrinkles
- Fades scars, including acne scars
- Encourages hair growth
- Long lasting, natural looking results
A Typical PRP Treatment at Reveal Beauty
A Typical PRP treatment takes between 60-90 minutes, this includes time for extracting and processing the platelets, applying a topical numbing cream, and any needed pre and post-procedure care. We perform PRP in our treatment rooms, not an operating suite.
A PRP treatment begins with a simple blood draw. We’ll extract a small quantity of blood, usually from a vein in the arm. This blood is placed in a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins the blood at high speeds, separating the different components in the blood. We use the plasma portion of the blood for our PRP treatments.
After the plasma solution is prepared, it is placed into syringes and is carefully injected into the treatment area. We use a numbing cream prior to the injections, so the process is relatively pain-free. The treatment ends with a gentle cleansing of the skin.
After PRP- What to Expect
Redness and tenderness are commonly reported side effects after a PRP treatment. At first, the face may look slightly swollen. The injected plasma takes time to absorb. You should notice a dramatic improvement within 24-48 hours of your procedure.
Downtime isn’t required, but most patients take a day or two off from work. Alternatively, schedule your treatment for Friday afternoon and use the weekend to recover. Regular activities aren’t usually a problem after treatment, but many patients want a day or two of social downtime after PRP.

PRP results begin to appear 2-3 weeks after treatment and continue to improve for several months as the body produces new collagen.
We always use a patient’s own blood for their PRP treatments. We’ll extract a small amount of your blood prior to your treatment and we’ll prepare it while you wait. Using your own blood is safer than using donor blood and ensures that you won’t have a reaction.
We are so excited by the results we’re seeing in our PRP patients. We would love to show you some before and after photos of our patients so you know what to expect after your treatment. Just ask!
